Our Hearts are with You

I made this card last month for a workshop this Friday.  As I stamped it, I wondered what I would use it for.  Today, I feel the need to make several of these cards to send because I know of so many hurts.  I was very sad to hear of an acquaintance who lost her daughter last week and dealt with this burden alone.  No phone calls or friends stopping by to help.  Please don't let this happen around you, especially during this holiday season.

Happy Birthday Jesus Blog Hop

Welcome to the "Happy Birthday Jesus" blog hop hosted by Lynne Kirsch (http://slasewcraftiness.blogspot.com/) and Lorby's World (http://lorbysworld.blogspot.com).

The holiday season is in full swing and with it rushing to get up the decorations and buy all those presents but in our rush we sometimes forget the whole reason we have this beautiful holiday - to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

A wonderful line up of people have come together and put their rushed holiday lives on hold to show the true meaning of Christmas. Please hop through and leave them each a comment since they have worked hard to help make this hop a success.

I don't want Christmas to end on December 25th, so I lean towards blues, greys and whites that will last through winter.  That way we can celebrate just a little longer.

I created this trio of cards using Close to my Heart retired papers (I ordered extra because I loved them so much!).  The highlight of each card is the snowflake cut out using the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge.  It is then embossed and sponge daubed to give the texture.  Some are embellished with pearls for added pop.

Thanks for visiting!  If you like what you see, you can follow my blog at the right, like my Facebook page, and follow me on Pinterest.  Your next stop is Haidee at http://created2bunique.blogspot.com/2012/12/happy-birthday-jesus-blog-hop.html.  Lorby's World has a give away going on so please make sure you stop there to see how to enter and thank you for hopping with us today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!

Cornucopia of Leaves

For my November calendar page, I created this lovely cornucopia of leaves.

The background paper is from my Close to my Heart stash.  The cornucopia was cut with the Paper Doll Cricut cartridge.  I cut it from Desert Sand cardstock and sponged the lines with Desert Sand ink.  The leaves were cut using the Artiste Cricut cartridge.

To make the leaves more realistic, I first crumpled them up.  Next I used clear embossing to create the veins in the leaves.  Then I sponge daubed the leaves using brown and orange inks.  Voila!  Leaves!

Thanks for visiting!  Have a great day!

Preserving Stories

Here are some creative ways to preserve your stories:

Make a meal together using family recipes.  Write or print the recipes on 4x6 cards and place them in a photo album.  Give a recipe book to family members as Christmas gifts.  As space allows, include the stories behind the recipes.

Interview someone in your family.  Here is a great list of questions to start asking.  Take a voice recorder to make sure you don't miss the details.  If you can't visit in person, mail or email the questions to the person you'd like to interview.  Use the answers in a scrapbook or journal.  If you create a digital scrapbook, you can email the jpegs or print multiple copies.

If scrapbooking is not what you want to do, sit down with a box of photos and label away.  It may not sound exciting, but my heart breaks every time I see a stack of unlabeled photos. They hold countless stories that may never be told.

Make a memory box.  Cover the outside with pieces cut from wrapping paper, cards, fabric, etc.  The inside can be filled with special items.  Our daughter has a small box with items from her great grandma.

Get a journal or calendar to keep in your purse.  Write down a sentence or two when something happens.  Every night I write a couple of sentences on my calendar about what happened that day or something memorable that was said.  Our family also keeps a thankful journal.  Each night we all write something in the book.  One of our kids loves to read it over and over.

This photo was taken of my grandma and daughter shortly before we moved out of state.  It was a very special day and one of my favorite pictures of Less than a year later, she passed away.

Harvest Banner

Most people don't think of purple as a harvest color, but it adds an unexpected pop of color to the otherwise neutral colors of Cocoa, Bamboo and Colonial White.  This harvest banner was created using the following ingredients:  My Creations Mini Banner, Sonoma paper, Sonoma My Stickease (only $1 right now!), Cocoa ink, Smokey Plum ink, Pearl Paint, Bamboo Re-Inker, Cocoa cardstock, twine, buttons and ribbon.  I also used the Cricut Artiste cartridge, a sanding block, spray bottle, and sponge daubers.  The cost of this super-cute banner - less than $10!  I used scrap paper and the tools, embellishments and inks from my stash.  While this project goes together quickly, it was a 2-day process.  On day 1 I sprayed the banner pieces with a combination of Pearl Paint and Bamboo Re-Inker.  I also cut the leaves and letters, then sanded and inked all pieces.   Day 2 consisted mainly of assembling the banner.

Post a pic of your Harvest Banner at www.facebook.com/aprilctmh and you just might get a little harvest treat from me!

100 Card Challenge Day 15

It's not often that I am so sick that it takes me completely out of the game, but that happened this week.  From Sunday night until last night, I slept with the exception of the few hours I drug myself to work.   My sweet kids made dinner and did my chores but they didn't get around to sending any cards for me.  It's time to catch up, so here we go...

Since I'm playing catch up, I'm also cheating a bit.  This is actually one of a set of cards I'm making for my grandpa to send our for birthdays using the Sonoma papers and Art Philosophy cartridge from Close To My Heart.  Whenever I make cards for him, I print a message and scripture on the inside so he only has to sign his name. He also requests that his cards be suitable for a man or woman and it is flat so he isn't charged extra postage.

One last thing... I want to remind you that there are only a few days left to get the May Stamp of the Month for only $5, so get yours soon!

100 Card Challenge Day 14

The card I am sharing today is one that I made for a baby shower.   The Lucy papers, stamps and rub on are from Close To My Heart.  I thought the sentiment was perfect for a new baby.
This was my first time using rub ons and it was so easy I will be using them a lot more in my paper crafting!

100 Card Challenge Day 13

Today we are celebrating our son's seventh birthday, his first birthday with us.  When asked what he wanted for his birthday, he said he wanted a party at church for his friends.  He wanted to have cake and ice cream, therefore he gets a cake card.

This card was made with the Fanfare papers from Close To My Heart.
